Spurs midfielder alerts Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United

Lewis Holtby

Tottenham's Lewis Holtby has put a number of Premier League clubs on red alert by suggesting Marco Reus and Julian Draxler could join him in England.

Holtby, 23, joined Spurs in a cut-price £1.5m deal from Schalke in January, and is now tipping two of his compatriots to also leave the Bundesliga in order to join Premier League sides, including his former teammate in Gelsenkirchen, Julian Draxler.

“Draxler is on the list of every big team,” Holtby said in an interview with The Evening Standard. “He is a fantastic young player and I think a lot of money will probably be spent on him. I don’t know whether he wants to come but there are a lot of players there. People say Marco Reus is in talks with everyone here, so Germany have a number of big talents and the Premier League is very keen on getting them in.”

Draxler has been a star for Schalke in recent times, and the 20 year old did little to deflect attention away from rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea, saying “You never, you never know. I think [Stamford Bridge is] a great stadium. It’s a great team and a great coach.”

Chelsea were told by Schalke general manager Horst Heldt in August to pay around £60m for the German starlet, though vowed to keep hold of their prized asset, with Arsenal and Manchester United also watching Draxler with interest.
"We certainly plan to continue with Julian, but it there is an offer of €70m (£60m) lands on my desk, what could I say?"

However, Chelsea recently purchased fellow German Andre Schurrle and Brazilian winger Willian in the summer transfer window, and with Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar already at the club, Draxler's development could be stunted by sitting behind a bunch of established players.

Meanwhile, Dortmund forward Reus was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer, with a rumoured £34m release clause in his contract. Arsenal and Manchester United are also reportedly following Reus, as his exploits with Dortmund have made him a household name. Expected to be a key player for Germany at next summer's World Cup, Reus could put himself in the shop window, though playing for his hometown team is something close to his heart.

Arsenal are building quite the German contingent at the Emirates Stadium, with Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski joined by Mesut Ozil, and with Serge Gnabry also coming through the ranks, Reus or Draxler could find some familiar faces if they move to the Premier League as Holtby suggests they could.
