Manchester United scouts watch ‘mini Messi’ get incredible four assists in match

Manchester United’s scouts were in Scotland this weekend to watch Ryan Gauld in action against Partick Thistle this weekend and they wouldn’t have left disappointed.

The 17-year-old grabbed all four assists in Dundee United’s 4-1 victory and was the complete star of the show. Everything that Dundee had going forward was through the youngster.

It wasn’t just the fact that he got four assists. It was the manner and composure in which he got them.

The competition may not be the best in the SPL but for a 17-year-old to put in that performance in a professional, competitive game is phenomenal.

His first assist saw him dance from just inside the Partick Thistle half before he cut inside his defender and laid on an inch perfect pass to his team mate to finish.
The second was a cutting through ball into space that allowed his overlapping team mate time and space to run on and score.

The third once again saw him run from just inside the opponent’s half before he picked up his own ricochet to poke through a deft pass amid a horde of defenders. It was a real show of composure as was his fourth assist, a measured through ball that just beat the outstretched defender.
Comparisons with Lionel Messi are premature but you can see why as his poise and manner are a mirror image of how the Argentinian plays football.

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara couldn’t speak any more highly of Gauld after the game and hailed him as the greatest talent he has worked with.
“He was outstanding, he was involved in every goal. I’ve not worked with a talent like that before. He’s something very special,” said McNamara

“His weight of pass, his decision-making and everything. He sees things before anyone else in the stadium can see it. He’s special.”
Last week, we gave you some insight into why Gauld is such a coveted talent and off the back of that performance, it isn’t hard to see why Real Madrid have already scouted him.
At 17, his ball playing ability is absolutely fantastic and he would not look out of place at all in United’s academy.
Moyes, sign him up.
