One of the names linked with a move to White Hart Lane
consistently is Mohamed Salah, whose reputation in the European game has
grown considerably over the last 12 months. The Egypt international has been in fine form for Swiss side FC Basel, notably taking centre stage in the Champions League this season.
The African attacker netted in Basel’s shock 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, terrorising Ashley Cole with his turn of pace, movement off the ball and trickery.
In the return leg in Switzerland in midweek, Salah score a late winner to give his side a 1-0 victory over the Premier League giants once more, putting in another excellent performance in the process.
Spurs have been the side most linked with Salah’s signature, with Andre Villas-Boas set to make a move for the Basel man once the January transfer window opens in the new year.
However, reports from Italy today are suggesting that Juventus have also taken a shine to the in-form winger, and are ready to rival Spurs for Salah’s signature in January.
Calcio Mercato indicate that the Bianconeri have identified Salah as a man to improve their squad, and will match whatever offer Spurs put forward in January.
If there is any credence in the report it is bad news for Spurs, with Salah a man destined to play at the top level. With the 21-year-old clearly reveling in European competition after his heroics in the Europa League last term and goals this year, a move to Juve would surely be more appealing than to switch to the north London club.
The left wing position of Spurs’ 4-2-3-1 formation has been something of a point of contention of late, with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Aaron Lennon all playing there on occasion, but no-one tying down a regular place in the side.
Salah looks to have all the attributes to be a star in the Premier League, but evidently Spurs will have stiff competition for his signature.
Can Spurs sign Salah despite Juve interest?
