Emanuelson: Milan have silenced Celtic loud-mouths with 'surprisingly comfortable' victory

AC Milan defender Urby Emanuelson last night claimed the Italians silenced loud-mouth Celtic with their emphatic 3-0 win at Parkhead.

The former Ajax and Fulham left-back was irked by talk emanating from the Scottish champions that they had been hard done by in losing 2-0 at the San Siro in September.

And the 27-year-old Dutch international admitted he was delighted the Serie A strugglers did their talking on the pitch again to leave Celtic’s hopes of European football beyond Christmas dead and buried.

‘After we beat them in Milan, we heard a lot of people from Celtic saying that they were the better side, that they should have got the result,’ said Emanuelson.

‘That was up to them. All I know is we did get the result that night and that’s what it’s all about at this level.

‘But whatever they thought in September, no one can argue against us deserving to win this time.’

Emanuelson admitted, however, he was breathing a sigh of relief after securing a win that should buy Milan some time from their notorious ultras.

The fans kept the team in the San Siro for two hours at the weekend after a 1-1 draw with Genoa confirmed their worst Serie A start in 32 years.

Defeat at Parkhead would have been unthinkable, but Emanuelson and his team-mates were left toasting some pitiful Celtic defending as goals from Kaka, Cristian Zapata and Mario Balotelli left AC in pole position for the knockouts.
