Dortmund confirm injury will rule Subotic out for rest of season
Following an MRI scan the German club have
announced the defender could be out for at least six months after a
collision with Wolfsburg's Ivica Olic tore his cruciate ligament
Borussia Dortmund have have ruled Neven Subotic out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.The 24-year-old was substituted before the break in Dortmund's 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg, while an MRI scan after the match revealed the extent of the injury will keep the central defender sidelined for at least six months.
"Neven Subotic is injured for the rest of the season," a statement read on Dortmund's official website.
"The central defender tore the posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament tear in his right knee. According to team doctor Markus Braun, the 25-year-old will be out for at least six months."
This news will come as a massive blow to Dortmund, with pivotal clashes against Bayern Munich and Napoli looming after the international break.
Klopp has relied heavily on his Mainz protege this term, handing him 16 appearances in all competitions so far.
Summer arrival Sokratis Papastathopoulos is expected to deputise beside Mats Hummels during Subotic's spell on the sidelines.
