Liverpool: Reds dealt goalkeeper blow
The Reds have long been linked with the former Manchester United stopper, who left Old Trafford in 2010.
Since turning his back on the Premier League, Zieler has impressed in the Bundesliga and has made 12 appearances this season, with Hannover currently sitting in 11th in the league.
As such, Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has been monitoring the ‘keeper for the past few months – with the player’s contract containing a reported €8 million (£6.7m) release clause.
However, German publication Bild reported on Wednesday that the player himself is keen to remove that escape route from his deal – by negotiating a new contract involving a major salary increase.
The news will not just come as a blow to Rodgers, with Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach also monitoring the stopper’s situation.
