City target in serious injury blow
Valdes is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks with a hamstring problem that forced him to leave the field of play.
Spain had to use each of the three keepers in their squad as Valdes, who replaced Real Madrid stopper Iker Casillas at half-time, was in turn substituted by Pepe Reina of Liverpool.
Valdes is out of contract at Barcelona this summer and is reported to have emerged as a transfer target for City.
The Manchester club are believed to be considering signing a replacement for England international Joe Hart, who has not played in City's last four matches.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini has promoted back-up goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon in response to several early season errors made by Hart.
French club Monaco are also believed to have an interest in Valdes, who has already stated his intention to leave Barca at the end of this season.
