Simeone: Atletico can't win boring Liga
Despite one defeat all season away to Espanyol
the Argentine coach maintains the duopoly of Barcelona and Real Madrid
is too powerful to overcome for Atleti
Diego Simeone is not expecting Atletico Madrid to usurp traditional favourites Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Liga title despite only one defeat all season following a 7-0 win over Getafe. The 43-year-old has coached the Vicente Calderon outfit to Copa del Rey victory last term, while the landslide win on Saturday means they stay within three points of Liga leaders Barcelona after 14 games.
However, Simeone does not believe los Rojiblancos have enough in their tank to break up Spain's duopoly in a league he accused of being predictable.
"I still think this league is boring," he lamented to reporters after the match. "There is very little chance [to win] for teams outside Madrid or Barcelona.
"We are playing a championship game by game, like each fixture is a final. There are always difficulties approaching every game that we must resolve.
"Only when there are five to seven games left will we look at where we are in the league and examine our possibilities.
"I just seek to empower the players we have as well as the history of Atletico because I understand and respect the club where I am.
"First and foremost we want a fast and seasoned team and we are achieving that."
