Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be lining up a £10million swoop for Marseille forward Andre Ayew.
Marseille have got their season off to a disappointing start and reports claim failure to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League could result in them cashing in on the Ghana international.
The French outfit look set to finish bottom of a group that also includes Arsenal, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund, which will mean they will also miss out on the Europa League.
Ayew has 18 months remaining on his contract and Marseille realise they will get more money for him in January than they will next summer when he will be in the final year of his deal.
Liverpool will face competition for the player's signature though as Newcastle are also said to be keen.
