Alan Pardew admitted he was unaware of quotes attributed to Fabricio Coloccini in which the defender reiterated his desire to leave St James' Park.

• Ryder: Encouraging game

Coloccini, 31, first spoke of his wish to leave the Magpies in January, citing personal reasons.
San Lorenzo -- the club Coloccini spent a season on loan at during the 2000/2001 season – were keen to bring him back to his homeland and the clubs entered negotiations but were ultimately unable to agree a deal.

Subsequently remaining on Tyneside, Coloccini told Ole this week: "You never know what can happen in football. I have to speak the truth; I would like to return as soon as possible.

“In January we did all we could for a possible return to San Lorenzo but I always made it clear that Newcastle would have the last word. The club have invested a lot in me and I must show respect towards them.
“The truth is I don't want to get my hopes up. Hopefully it (departure for Argentina) will be as soon as possible though."

With Pardew unwilling to lose his club captain, he said after his side's 2-1 win at Norwich: "No I wasn't aware of that [the story] if I'm honest. It's difficult when players go home and they get interviewed, you never know if there's any truth in it. I haven't spoken to Colo about it."
