Newcastle line up replacement for £20m-rated star
Newcastle have identified Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as a potential replacement for in-demand Tim Krul, according to the Daily Express.
Krul has been in outstanding form for Newcastle this season, and his performances have started attracting attention from those at home and abroad.
Italian giants Juventus are said to be interested in the Dutchman, while Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are also keen.
Alan Pardew is sure to drive a hard bargain for Krul, who he does not want to leave, and has set Juventus a price tag of £20million.
While the Magpies hope the hefty price tag will deter the Italians, they remain aware the Old Lady could well stump up the cash as they hunt for a successor to Gianluigi Buffon.
And Newcastle have started taking a closer look at Reading stopper McCarthy just in case.
Reports suggest the Magpies have sent scouts to watch the young keeper on several occasions this season, and have been suitably impressed by his performances.
McCarthy is regarded as one of the brightest young goalkeeping prospects in the country.
He has represented England at under-21 level, and was even called up to the senior squad for the summer friendlies against Brazil and the Republic of Ireland, although he failed to get on the field.
