Chelsea latest: Blues squad return, Beligum boss in de Bruyne warning
All the latest news and views from Stamford Bridge.
A majority of Chelsea
players returned to the club's training centre in Cobham, Surrey, this
afternoon for a Wednesday session following their respective
international adventures. The Blue Belgians suffered two extraordinary results… losses… and their national manager, Marc Wilmots, has issued a clear message should the senior players who have designs on a national place want to maintain that role for the 2014 FIFA World Cup - play as many games for your club side!
For Chelsea fringe player Kevin de Bruyne, that may pose a dilemma…
'We first have to settle the problem that players play for their club,' he is quoted by Daily Mail to have said. 'December and January will be important even though I have little impact on it.'
The sentiment coincides with advice offered to de Bruyne by club and country team-mate Eden Hazard, who was quoted by Daily Star to have said: 'Playing at a World Cup without being in action for a year, I think that's very difficult. I think for him that leaving and playing would be good.
'If we [Belgium] want to get the best out of Kevin, it's best if he leaves [Chelsea].'
Since the closing of the summer transfer market, de Bruyne has been speculatively linked with moves to Anderlecht, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg. His transfermarkt.co.uk valuation is £15m.
Maintaining the theme of youngsters and another talent that Chelsea may miss out on is one who was never theirs in the first place but had been rumoured to join the club in the winter window.
According to reports, Saido Berahino will re-commit to current employer West Bromwich Albion, over exiting the club mid-season. Arsenal were also said to be interested in the player, according to the Express and Star.
