Would Demba Ba be mad to leave Chelsea for Besiktas?

The Senegalese forward is being linked with a transfer to the Turkish giants, but surely he should think twice before leaving England?

Despite scoring in Chelsea’s last Champions League game against Schalke, playing time for Demba Ba this term looks set to be in short supply at Stamford Bridge.

The Senegal international is behind Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o in Jose Mourinho’s preferences, and in the long-term will have the returning Romelu Lukaku to contend with also.




As such, it is being widely reported that the former Newcastle forward could leave west London in the near future, with either a loan or permanent move elsewhere on the cards in the January transfer window.
With Chelsea thought to be chasing a number of high-profile strikers, this could also speed up Ba’s exit from the club.

The latest rumours are that the African hitman could make a move to Turkey, with Besiktas reportedly interested in signing him.
Ba’s agent Ceylan Caliskan has stated that his client could well be interested in a switch to eastern Europe.

“I talk closely with Demba Ba, he wants to play for a Turkish club but I can’t comment on a transfer yet,” the representative told Turkish media.
Although Ba will certainly be keen to secure regular first-team football soon, surely a move to Turkey is drastic?

Ba moved to Stamford Bridge in January as one of the hottest prospects in English football, having scored 29 Premier League goals for Newcastle in just over 50 appearances.
Arsenal were linked with a move for him in the summer, while Ba would not be short of English suitors if he became available in January.

Although Mourinho would be reluctant to sell or loan the attacker to a title rival, a move similar to Lukaku’s loan to Everton surely would be a possibility.

Even a loan deal to a middle-ranked Premier League team in the short term would give Ba first-team football, with a permanent exit from Stamford Bridge able to be forged in the summer.
Ba has been one of the most lethal strikers in the English game, and a move to Turkey would see the Premier League lose a player of real quality.
