Footie-mad England fans snapped up more than 28,000 tickets for the World Cup finals in Brazil - before they crashed 2-0 at home to Chile at Wembley.
So keen are fans to witness England glory in June that they are fourth in a global rush for tickets – despite basic travel packages costing a whopping £7,000.
Huge demand meant more than 220,000 tickets released in a second round of sales sold in just seven hours.
England fans waited an average of 45 minutes just to get their orders processed online.
Kevin Miles, of the Football Supporters’ Federation – which will set up a “fans’ embassy”in Brazil – said: “These remarkable figures show enthusiasm for following England is undiminished.”
Of 3.3 million tickets, a third have been allocated so far. In the first round, 6.2 million people worldwide tried to buy 889,000 tickets.
Brazil topped the table for tickets sold in the first round with 625,276. America was second with 66,646.
England came third with 22,257, followed by fierce rivals Germany with 18,019 and Australia on 15,401.
The cheapest seat for overseas fans for the final on July 13 is £288. England snapped up more than 6,000 tickets in the second round. The next sale begins on December 8.
Basic UK packages for group games cost around £7,000 just for flights and accommodation. Rio is the most popular venue.
However a makeshift Three Lions side let them down on Friday evening, going down to two goals from Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez.
