West Brom wants Premier League debate over merits of video replays after wrong call
WEST Brom have called for a proper debate over the merits
of video technology in the Premier league, following the controversial
late draw at Chelsea.
Chelsea scraped a 2-2 draw in the final minute of stoppage time
after midfielder Ramires went down under a soft challenge from defender
Steven Reid.Replays showed there was no foul. That was the latest in a series of calls Albion believe should have gone their way this season.
The club's sporting and technical director Richard Garlick has contacted Premier League bosses and referees chiefs to outline the Baggies' fury.
His letter calls for a fresh debate over improving referees' decisions, including the possible expansion of technology beyond the goal line cameras that were introduced this season.
Garlick's letter to referees boss Mike Riley was sanctioned by West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace.
Apart from the Chelsea call, Albion were unhappy with a decision to deny them a penalty for a foul on Youssouf Mulumbu in the goalless draw at Stoke, a penalty given to Southampton in August and decision to not punish Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny during a 1-1 draw last month.
Garlick's letter highlights all four incidents and calls for a meeting between him, Riley and manager Steve Clarke.
Garlick also criticised the $600,000 outlay for Hawk-Eye goal line technology that they believe will rarely be used.
