Sunderland without suspended duo for the visit of Southampton in Capital One Cup
Gustavo Poyet will be forced into a number of changes to his side following the dismal defeat to Hull City
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will be without the services of at least
three players for Wednesday night's Capital One Cup visit of
high-flying Southampton.
Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena were both sent off in the Black Cats' defeat to Hull City at the weekend and will begin their respective suspensions against the Saints.
Goalkeeper Kieran Westwood was also brought off injured in a calamitous first-half at the KC Stadium. Vito Mannone is set to deputise, meaning academy product Joel Dixon is likely to be on the bench.
Poyet may decide to hand Wes Brown, who came on at half-time on Saturday, his first competitive start since January 2012.
Elsewhere, Ki Sung-Yueng may replace Cattermole, while Craig Gardner, Adam Johnson and Emmanuele Giaccherini could return to the fray.
Provisional squad: Mannone, Dixon, Bardsley, Brown, Celustka, O'Shea, Diakite, Cuellar, Roberge, Ki, Larsson, Cabral, Gardner, Johnson, Colback, Giaccherini, Mavrias, Fletcher, Altidore, Ji, Borini
