PLAYER ANALYSIS: Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge must do better for England

Sturridge has been in imperious form at club level this season and looked to impress Roy Hodgson at Wembley.

BODY LANGUAGE

Sturridge was quick to try to get onto the ball, clearly eager to show his match sharpness after sitting out the friendly against Chile. Showed plenty of running during the early stages but was not really given much opportunity in the first half - which was summed up when he got away down the right and to the touchline only to be thwarted by a fine tackle from Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng.

LINK-UP PLAY
Interchanged well with Adam Lallana and Wayne Rooney. Sturridge was happy to drift out to the flanks when needed as well as cut back inside. However, the forward was well marshalled by Germany skipper Per Mertesacker and Boateng. Often delayed his run just a fraction too long which allowed the visitors ever-changing defence to close down the danger.

FINISHING
Little real openings for the Liverpool forward to test German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller, who was making his first start. Did get half a chance just after the hour when the ball was cut back in by Rooney, but he snatched at his shot at it was blocked by Mats Hummels.

IMPACT
Despite all of the build-up, Sturridge had little opportunity to show the sort of clinical form he had been in for Liverpool. Still, though, plenty of time ahead for the Reds frontman to cement his place in Roy Hodgson's final plans for Brazil 2014.
