Eagles’ll shine in Brazil – Ambrose
Celtic defender Efe Ambrose is aiming to help Nigeria illuminate the 2014 World Cup after booking their ticket to Brazil, Skysports reports.
The reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions eased past Ethiopia 4-1 on aggregate in their qualification playoff.
Attention can now switch to next summer and staking a claim to the grandest prize in world football.
There is a feeling that Nigeria will go well among the elite, with their squad packed with top level experience.
Ambrose is confident the Super Eagles
can shine on the biggest stage of all, with there the promise of more to
come from Stephen Keshi’s side.
He said, “I am happy to be part of this history making.
“My target now is to help my country do
well at the World Cup. We can shine in Brazil because I know we can play
a lot better than what we have been doing.
“Here we have a talented group of players and I expect us to go a long way next year.”
Meanwhile, Schalke 04 have received a boost by the return of Chinedu Obasi and Leon Goretzka to team training.
Out-of-favour Eagles forward Obasi,
who has made 21 appearances for his country, is yet to feature in the
current campaign having been side-lined with a shin injury since June,
while Germany Under-21 midfielder Goretzka, signed in the offseason from
Bundesliga 2 side VFL Bochum, has recovered from a bout of tonsillitis
that had kept him out of action for two weeks.
Schalke coach Jens Keller hinted he does
not expect Obasi to be available for the Royal Blues’ upcoming
encounter at Eintracht Frankfurt, but he is planning to have Goretzka in
the squad for the clash at Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena on 23
November.
