Arsenal first club to reach 3m on Twitter
Club is the first in the UK to hit the landmark number of followers
@Arsenal was launched in 2009 and has become the fifth-largest in the world after @FCBarcelona, @RealMadrid, @Lakers and @GalatasaraySK. Among the clubs in the Barclays Premier League, @arsenal is followed closely by @chelseafc which has 2.98m followers.
"It is immensely satisfying to become the first Barclays Premier League to reach three million Twitter
followers," Richard Clarke, managing editor of the Arsenal Media Group, said. "We are working harder than ever to engage with the club's fans on social media and they seem to have responded positively to what we
are doing. We are putting up more pictures, graphics and audio while most major interviews have a social media element. We’ll be looking to innovate further in the months ahead."
Arsenal also are among a number of clubs to run Twitter accounts in foreign languages. All 20 clubs in the Barclays Premier League have Twitter accounts supplying their fans with important information as well as giving them an insight to behind the scenes and the chance to interact with their heroes.
