NSSF unveils logo for school sports festival
The
6th edition of the National School Sports Festival has been confirmed
to hold from November 20 to 30 in Ilorin, Kwara State. The date was
confirmed when the Nigeria School Sports Federation unveiled the logo
and mascot for the competition in Lagos on Wednesday in a ceremony held
at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
NSSF president Mallam Ibrahim Mohammad
said over 6000 students were expected to compete in 23 events. He added
that the main objective was to encourage determination in children in
all their endeavours and instill mutual respect and discipline in them.
He said, “This year’s edition is unique
because of corporate sponsorship. We got N35m from Sterling Bank; Milo
is giving N7m for the U-13 football competition. The National Sports
Commission will also be giving N20m.”
Head Strategy and Communication Sterling
Bank, Shina Atilola said the bank desire is to be part of the future by
starting from the present.
“We intend to make the event as colourful as possible,” he said.
The Chairman National Academicals Sports
Committee, Yemi Idowu called for more corporate partnership as the
future of Nigerian sports lies in the schools.
“I want to state that any competition
that does not involve schools should be ignored. Any competition in
which our children are asked to buy scratched cards should be
discarded,” he said
The Brand Manager, Milo, Nestle Nigeria
Plc, Funmi Osineye said that the company’s 15 years of partnership with
schools sports is based on the belief that the system provides a place
to catch them young and produce morally upright champions for Nigeria.
She said, “We believe that sport is a veritable ground to impart life values in children.”
