Manchester United are on the road to recovery after a slow start under David Moyes.
There have been disappointing results against Liverpool, Manchester City and West Brom as well as home draws against Chelsea and Southampton.

But they're on the brink of qualification to the knockout stage from their Champions League group and they've also made smooth progress in the Capital One Cup.

In total, United have scored 28 goals in all competitions. Here, in reverse order, are the top five with weight given to the quality of the goal and it's importance.

5. Javier Hernandez (versus Liverpool)
Goals don't always have to be 30-yard screamers to be considered great, and Javier Hernandez's winner against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup falls into that category.

United had already been beaten by Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League and three days earlier had been humiliated by Manchester City.

But Hernandez's deft volley lifted the mood of United's support and eased the pressure on David Moyes. It ignited pandemonium inside a bouncing Old Trafford.

4. Wayne Rooney (versus Manchester City)
The 3,000 United fans inside the Etihad Stadium in September endured a miserable afternoon as City ran riot, scoring four times inside the first 50 minutes.

For those with thick enough skin to stay until the end, they at least had something to cheer when Wayne Rooney's 87th-minute free-kick flew past Joe Hart and into the top corner.
It was too little, too late but still worth of a place in the top five.

3. Danny Welbeck (second versus Swansea)
Danny Welbeck had already got his name on the scoresheet against Swansea in the opening game of the season before he ran onto Wayne Rooney's pass in the 90th minute.

The England striker didn't look like he had many options until he flicked the ball over Michel Vorm and into the far corner of the net to wrap up a 4-1 win. Not bad for a player who apparently doesn't score enough goals and supposedly can't finish.

2. Adnan Januzaj (second versus Sunderland)
Few players announce themselves on the big stage like Adnan Januzaj did at the Stadium of Light.
Handed his full Premier League debt by David Moyes, Januzaj repaid the United manager's faith with the equaliser against Sunderland, his first goal for United.

But his second was even better, a technically perfect left-foot volley from Nani's deflected cross that shot past Keiren Westwood and earned United three valuable points.

1. Robin van Persie (second versus Swansea)
United won the Premier League title on the back of Robin van Persie's goals last season, and he started the new campaign in similar form.

He scored United's first Premier League goal of the season with an acrobatic volley against Swansea ,but bettered it in the second half.

Picking up Rooney's pass in midfield, the Dutchman ran at Swansea's back four and, from 20 yards out, flicked the ball onto his left foot and flashed a fierce drive past Vorm.
