Luka Modric has admitted he is still flattered to know that Sir Alex Ferguson tried to sign him for Manchester United.
In an interview with Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Modric spoke about his career before joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.
He admitted that current Bernabeu chief Carlo Ancelotti tried to
sign him for both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, while Sir Alex Ferguson also coveted his signature.
Many reports prior to Modric’s Real move suggested the Red Devils were set to land the playmaker and, while the move never materialised, he has revealed he still takes great pride in knowing he was wanted by the legendary Scot.
He said: "Ancelotti wanted me already.
"One year ago at PSG and in 2011 at Chelsea. But then Andre Villas-Boas came and Tottenham did not want to give me up.
"I also knew of the interest of the United and even if the transfer did not materialise, the public appreciation of a great like Sir Alex is a big pride for me."
