England’s Four Champions League Representatives – Who Can Go All The Way?
The Premier League is trying to re-establish its dominance in the UEFA Champions League
this year and have a good chance of doing so with four teams all
heading towards the knockout stages of the competition for the first
time in some years.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are among the favorites at bookmakers such as SportsBettingDime.com to
lift the much-coveted trophy this year. In seven of the last nine
finals there has been an English side contesting the final. The last one
to win the trophy was Chelsea in 2011, when they defeated Bayern Munich
in a penalty shootout at the Allianz Arena.
All four teams currently sit top of
their respective groups as we head into the last two games, so it looks
odds on that they will progress to the next phase. Arsenal’s position is
arguably the most perilous as they have a tough group that includes
Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille.
With a trip to Italy on
Matchday 6, Arsene Wenger
will hope results go his way in the next round of games and his side
can seal qualification with a game to spare, but there is still the
chance that 12 points might not be enough for the north Londoners, which
is truly unbelievable.
After ten games, Arsenal remain top of
the Premier League thanks to nine consecutive games without loss, but
they were eliminated from the Capital One Cup
by Chelsea, who are hot on their tails in the league. Jose Mourinho’s
side beat Schalke on Wednesday 3-0 to move ever closer to sealing
qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League and who would bet against ‘The Special One’ lifting the cup with a third team?
Manchester United are off the pace in
the Premiership as they slowly adapt to life under David Moyes. The Red
Devils occupy eighth spot and are nine points adrift of the leaders so
have it all to do to retain their trophy. However, they are sitting top
of Group A in Europe and could seal qualification with a win next time
out, and United could be a dangerous outfit in the last 16 should they
make it.
Manchester City have already made it
through to the next phase for the first time in their history with an
impressive win over CSKA Moscow, and the Sky Blues will be looking to go
all the way under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
So out of the four English
representatives, who has the best chance of winning the Champions
League? We’ll leave they to you to decide!
