Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao wants to prove his worth at Real Madrid

FABIO COENTRAO is hoping to show he 'deserves' to be a Real Madrid player after his move to Premier League champions Manchester United fell through

The Portuguese international, who started in his country's 4-2 victory over Northern Ireland on Friday, saw his season-long loan move to United fail to be ratified before the 11pm deadline last Monday evening.

However Coentrao believes he will show Madrid what they have not lost, if given the chance at the Bernabeu.

"I want to do better than last season, despite already being at a pretty high level," the 25-year-old told O Jogo.

Marouane Fellaini's £27.5m transfer from Everton represented Moyes' only significant deal since taking over as United manager.

A move for Leighton Baines failed to materialise, after a joint bid to take Fellaini and Baines was rejected by new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez and chairman Bill Kenwright.
