Chelsea Weigh Up January Move For Impressive Marseille Midfield Starlet
Chelsea are considering making a January bid for talented Marseille youngster Giannelli Imbula, according to talkSPORT.
The 21-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 outfit during the summer after impressing in France’s second tier with Guingamp, where he had previously caught the attention of Chelsea as well.
On that occasion Imbula snubbed bigger offers to continue his progress with Marseille, and though he has enjoyed a great start to life with Elie Baup’s side, Chelsea feel they may be able to tempt him into a move by trying again for him when the transfer window re-opens.
Imbula primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, but looks a capable and versatile performer, scoring one goal so far this season and enjoying an impressive pass accuracy of just over 90%.
His displays have impressed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who has hinted towards a change of approach in his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge, with more of an emphasis in bringing in young talent and building a team for the long-term.
Imbula is certainly one of the most impressive young talents around at the moment, and would fit in well at Chelsea, who could do with an extra player to add a bit of variety in their midfield this season.
