Eaglets want to make history – Manu
Nigeria
coach Manu Garba says the Golden Eaglets are determined to win the FIFA
Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates to make history.
Nigeria are seeking to win the title for
the fourth time at UAE 2013. The Eaglets won the tournament in 1985,
1993 and 2007. South American powerhouse Brazil have also won the
championship thrice.
And Manu maintains Nigeria will be the
first side to lift the trophy for the fourth time, saying his team’s
performance in Tuesday’s defeat of Iran has convinced him.
Goals from Samuel Okon, Kelechi
Iheanacho, Musa Muhammed and Musa Yahaya helped Nigeria to a 4-1 defeat
of the Iranians in Al Ain City to set up a quarterfinal clash with
Uruguay.
“I said earlier that my attack is
blistering and I still maintain that it will be difficult for any team
to stop us from scoring because our team love scoring goals, “said Manu
at the post-match conference.
“We don’t pretend we are an attacking
team, though there are still a few errors. But we are going to correct
them as we go further in the competition.”
Assistant coach Nduka Ugbade said the team were not bothered by Brazil.
He said, “We don’t want to be bothered
with the tag of favourites and our philosophy remains the same:one game
at a time. Our objective right from the start was to win our matches and
we continue to be guided by that.”
