Andros Townsend wants Tottenham fans to give them a chance
ANDROS TOWNSEND has pleaded with Tottenham fans to be patient.
Boss Andre Villas-Boas caused a stir when he had a pop at the White Hart Lane crowd after Sunday’s 1-0 league win over Hull.
Villas-Boas said his side play better away because their supporters make life hard for them by creating a tense atmosphere at home.
They have scored just five goals in as many games on their own patch and two of those have been penalties.
And fans had to wait until the 80th minute for Roberto Soldado’s penalty winner against Hull on Sunday.
Villas-Boas will find out how his shock swipe went down with the supporters when the two sides meet again in a Capital One
Cup fourth-round clash tonight. But Townsend backed his boss by calling
for patience, especially when Spurs are struggling to break down teams
who come to defend.
England winger Townsend said: “It’s difficult and sometimes it will take 70, 80 minutes to get the goal.“It’s difficult and sometimes it will take 70, 80 minutes to get the goal”Andros Townsend
“It was difficult (on Sunday) against a team that sets up with five defenders and four midfielders, all behind the ball.
“We tried to play the football, the opposition wouldn’t let us with their system and tactics, but our persistence paid off and we got the win, that’s all that matters.”
Villas-Boas is planning to make wholesale changes for part two of Spurs’ Hull double-header.
Erik Lamela, Brad Friedel, Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, who has not played this season, could get run outs.
Villas-Boas said: “We will definitely make lots of changes because this schedule has been quite tight.
“We want to continue to do well in the Capital One Cup and we have that responsibility to do that at home.”
