Tottenham's Lewis Holtby reveals Hull link

LEWIS Holtby risks a family row this week when Spurs take on Hull twice in a week.

His grandad is a Tigers supporter, even though he now lives in Northumberland.

And the Germany star’s English dad, Chris, supports Everton so rows brew when they clash.

Holtby, nicknamed ‘Fritz’ by his dad, a former soldier who was based in Germany, said: “There’s also a rift when England play Germany. My dad is a serious supporter.

“My grandad Harry is a Tigers fan. Unfortunately, he lives in Northumberland and it’s a long way to come down to a football match.

“Hopefully I’ll see him in Hull when we play up there. I’ve a lot of family there – the Holtby family is everywhere!”

Lewis, 23, who started in Tottenham’s last league match, a 2-0 win at Villa last Sunday, says it’s vital they put together back-to-back wins and return to winning ways.

He added: “We have to give the fans a nice day, especially after what happened last time at home against West Ham.”

It’s the first of a double-header against Steve Bruce’s men with Hull back in the capital on Wednesday in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Meanwhile, Jermain Defoe is honoured to have equalled Martin Chivers’ record of 22 European goals for Tottenham.

After scoring in the 2-0 midweek win over Sheriff Tiraspol, he said: “It is great to be top with Martin. It is special because he is a legend.”
