Tottenham fans tweet anger and confusion after Adebayor omission
The Togolese striker was hoping to start Spurs' home Capital One Cup tie fixture against Hull, after a poor showing from the first team against the same opponent in the Premier League at the weekend.
Instead Adebayor has not even been named on the bench, with youngster Harry Kane preferred.
If manager Andre Villas-Boas' mind has truly been made up about the striker, which it certainly seems now, then leaving him out and looking to the future with Kane seems like a logical option.
But would he really be flogging a dead horse by picking Adebayor? Does the international striker not have more to give?
The former Arsenal and City striker is one who when at the top of his game adds a different style to Tottenham's attack, and would surely be an option worth pursuing to see if they can get more out of him.
It is no secret he has a tense working relationship with AVB at best, who himself can be of a prickly nature when he wants to be. Adebayor is seemingly one to fall foul of him.
Adebayor has been linked with a January exit to Turkey as he was in the summer, but a stumbling block will remain him dropping his wage demands. Perhaps AVB is simply trying to show him staying at Spurs is simply untenable.
There has been no official explanation for his omission, no confirmation of any injury, and it certainly looks as though the striker has just been left out.
For fans who had hoped to see him in action, and see him stake his claim for first team football, there has been quite an outcry on Twitter.
Here is what they had to say...
