ARSENAL star Mesut Ozil handed his shirt to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho after his side were knocked out of the Capital One Cup - and proceeded to describe the Portguese manager as "the best coach in the world".

Chelsea inflicted a third home defeat of the season on Arsenal at the Emirates as they triumphed 2-0 thanks to goals from Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata.

Ozil came on as a second-half substitute but to no avail for Arsene Wenger's side.

And Wenger may be slightly put out by quotes attributed to his £42.5million summer signing after the game that claim he described Mourinho as "the best coach in the world".

Mourinho signed Ozil at Real Madrid three years ago for a fee of £12m from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

The German international went on to become one of the best playmakers in the world under Mourinho and the pair have remained close despite both leaving the Bernabeu.

"I gave my jersey to Mourinho because he’s the best coach in the world and I love him like a father," Ozil is quoted to have said.

If such musings are true, Wenger may be perturbed by the 25-year-old's allegiance to Mourinho - with the two managers known rivals.

Wenger and Mourinho's once-fractious relationship has eased in recent years though, predominantly due to Mourinho managing abroad.

But Mourinho proved he still has the edge over his London counterpart by knocking Wenger's Arsenal out of the cup.

And the former Inter Milan boss dug the knife in further by lapping up Ozil's praise and leaving the pitch clutching his shirt.
