Torres late show stuns City
Fernando
Torres’ late winning goal moved Chelsea up to second with a 2-1 victory
over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The former Liverpool striker went from
villain-to-hero in 90 minutes after squandering two golden opportunities
in the first-half, before going on to inspire Chelsea to victory.
Having fluffed his lines in-front of
goal minutes before, Torres made up for his mistakes with a terrific
solo-run to create an opening for Andre Schurrle to prod home his first
goal in English football.
However, three minutes after the
restart, the in-form Sergio Aguero levelled for City as he timed his to
run to absolute perfection, before lashing a shot past Petr Cech at his
near-post.
Javi Garcia and David Silva missed good
chances to put City in front yet one final push from Mourinho’s side in
the last minute won it for Chelsea.
Joe Hart was caught in no man’s land and
in no position to claim Matija Nastasic’s nod back leaving the tireless
Torres free to slot home into an empty net for the win that sent
Chelsea up to second, a jubilant Jose Mourinho into the stands and
leaves City down in seventh.
