We must plan for Eaglets – Onigbinde, Taribo

Former Super Eagles coach  Adegboye  Onigbinde  and ex-Nigeria defender Taribo West have  called for a programme to help the victorious Golden Eaglets  develop their talents.

Nigeria on November 8 won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup for the fourth time at the United Arab Emirates and Onigbinde, who  hailed the success, praised the Federal Government for giving the players N2m each for their  efforts.

Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medallist  Taribo said the team deserve the attention they have been getting since their triumphant outing in UAE.

Onigbinde said during the week  there should be a plan for the players to become stars.

“The action of the President is commendable; sincerely, there is a  need for better compensation for good deeds and an exemplary performance of such, to serve as a motivation,” the News Agency of Nigeria  quoted the Maroc ’84 Africa  Cup of Nations silver winning coach as saying.

“It is a way of showcasing how the President and Nigerians at large appreciate them; the way they have made us proud.

“Beyond that, there are other salient issues of planning for the future of these boys in order  for them to sustain this enviable legacy of excellence.

“Planning for the future in soccer should start when a child is five, with an all-inclusive provision for their qualitative education in all strata of academic endeavours.

“But as it is, it is incumbent on government at all levels to create the requisite enabling environment.”

Taribo said, “I’m glad that we won the trophy, but we must not get  carried away with the victory.

“We need a solid administrative structure  to sustain the success. There should be a way of making our  age-group teams to progress and give us the national team of our dream.”
