Back goals either side of the oranges as West Ham host Chelsea
Eight of the last nine encounters have produced goals either side of the break
West Ham need to improve dramatically on their dismal home form if they’re to ascend the league table in time for a comfortable Christmas.
With Chelsea the next visitors to Upton Park, many will believe that ascension may have to wait another week, though, the 9/2 shots for a home victory can draw on one of their finest wins of last season here against the Blues, when they triumphed 3-1 in the Premier League.
Indeed, Jose Mourinho’s title chasers will not achieve that dream if they continue to flounder on their travels either, where they’ve only recorded one league victory outside of Stamford Bridge thus far, making the 8/13 on away win questionably short.
However, while the eventual outcome may be a difficult one to call, the extremely strong trend of goals in either half may well prove the most profitable avenue to stroll down.
It’s 4/6 with Ladbrokes that there are goals scored in either half at Upton Park and this bet would have landed in the last six meetings at either ground and in eight of the last nine in total.
Aside from that chastening last season, it’s fair to say that Chelsea have had by far the best of this derby, winning four of the last five and this includes them scoring in both halves in each of those victories.
It’s therefore also worth considering the 5/4 that Chelsea’s score goals in both halves themselves.
