David Moyes has lauded Manchester United's supporters as he claims the wins will come.
Moyes has been subject to mounting media scrutiny due to overseeing the worst start to a season any Manchester United manager has experienced in the past 24 years. Even the coach of the club's Wednesday
evening opponents, Mircea Lucescu of Shakthar Donetsk, has highlighted United's domestic strife but, ahead of the European date at the Donbass Arena, Moyes has appealed to the fanbase - declaring the club as the 'greatest' - and acknowledges why he, and United, are a focal point for the press.
'It is always the thing at Manchester United,' he is quoted by the club's official website to have said. 'Everyone is interested in them. It is a talking point for everybody throughout the world. That is why it is, for me, the greatest club. It is a great honour to be the manager. Even our arrival here in Donetsk has been greeted with a lot of supporters at the airport. It is a great thing.'
United are currently in the bottom half of the English division with just two wins and eight goals to show from six matches. Moyes is not fazed by the media glare and claims that his past experiences of poor form suffered at Everton and Preston and his ability to overcome them and gain victories, stands him in good stead for the immediate future at Old Trafford.
'I have been in situations very similar to this at my old clubs Everton and also at Preston. You get on and you do the right things. I haven't changed what I have done. I will continue to do that. The results will come. I have no doubt about that.'
One of Lucescu's main criticisms of Moyes was that the losses have accrued as a direct consequence of his insistent tinkering of the first-team squad. However, the 50-year-old, in what could be construed as a public riposte to Lucescu, has implied that the reason for the shake-ups from game-to-game is so that he can get to know each player better so he fully understands what the best team is.
'We are getting to know them [the players]. We are understanding them much more. I am beginning to get a better feel for them all. I know one thing about them. They are really good players, top players they are. That will never change.'
