All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…
Manchester City prepare to face Bayern Munich this evening boosted by the timely return of David Silva. The Spanish midfielder has not played since sustaining a thigh injury whilst on international duty. But he is back in contention to face the reigning European champions at the Etihad.
\Sergio Aguero is also expected to feature having missed Saturday’s match against Aston Villa with a slight knock.
If the Blues need any further motivation to beat Pep Guardiola’s side, they need look no further than their youth team, who battered their Bayern counterparts 6-0 earlier today.
Marcos Lopes shone throughout, grabbing a hat-trick. City’s other goals came from Jason Denayer, George Glendon and Devante Cole.
The result means City are now top of their Uefa Youth Cup group, and will next face CSKA Moscow, who thrashed Viktoria Plzen 5-0 in Russia yesterday.
And returning to the senior side, Alvaro Negredo has revealed that it was the chance to play in matches like this evening’s that saw him move to the Etihad.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, the Spanish striker said, “The chance to play against teams like Bayern certainly influenced my decision to leave Sevilla. Any footballer wants to grow, and in my case that meant coming to a huge club like Manchester City to compete in the Champions League against the defending champions.”
He will hope to prove the difference this evening, as City attempt to maintain their fine start to the group stage against a side that last year went all the way.
