Tottenham attempt sensational swap deal for Chelsea record signing
Tottenham Hotspur have attempted an audacious swap deal to send Emmanuel Adebayor to Chelsea in exchange for Fernando Torres, according to both Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio and the Sunday Mirror’s Matt Law.
Neither striker was particularly impressive for their clubs last season, with each struggling to hit barn doors throughout.
Torres may have scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, but managed just eight in the Barclays Premier League, and just a single strike in the top flight in 2013 so far.
Adebayor meanwhile was even less prolific, scoring just eight times overall in the last campaign, and only five of those came in the league.
While perhaps both of these strikers might perform better at each other’s clubs, at present this deal appears to be a non-starter.
However, on transfer deadline day, anything is possible, and only when the window slams shut at 11pm BST will we know for certain.
