Former Chelsea midfielder Benayoun set for return to Spain with Getafe or Malaga
Yossi Benayoun is reportedly set to choose between La Liga teams Getafe and Malaga in the next 48 hours.
The Israeli midfielder has denied reports in the Spanish media that he is close to agreeing a two-year deal with the Spanish side Getafe.
He said, 'I’m in Tel Aviv at the moment and not flying out. I have offers but I’ve not yet agreed with anyone.'
Benayoun, 33, is a free agent since leaving Chelsea in June and entitled to move despite the fact that the transfer window is closed.
Benayoun’s first preference was to stay in the Premier League as his family are settled in England but talks with Crystal Palace and WBA failed because the English teams were offering a far lower salary than Getafe and Malaga.
A source close to Benayoun said that 'the ball is in Yossi’s court regarding Getafe.'
Veteran: Benayoun joined Liverpool after a spell with West Ham
Both Getafe and Malaga have had poor starts to the season each taking only one point from their first three games.
If Benayoun returns to Spain, it will be after eight years in the Premier League with West Ham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. The Israeli came to England from Racing Santander in 2005.
He was recently dropped by the Israel national team due to lack of match fitness.
The Israeli international spent a season on loan at Arsenal in 2011/12
