La Liga’s best central midfielder this season honoured by Manchester United interest

Transfers rakitic

Ivan Rakitic’s agent has admitted that he is honoured by the mounting interest in him from big clubs around Europe including Manchester United.

The 25-year-old, named as Sevilla’s captain in only his second year at the club, has been in inspired form in La Liga this year despite only being eighth in the table.

While his agent and brother Dejan Rakitic has insisted that it is too early in the season to discuss the possibility of a move away from Sevilla, he has intimated that the interest is more than welcomed.

“It’s too early to say something concrete,” he said.
“My brother still has a year and a half left on his contract. Chelsea, Manchester United and Lazio are interested in him?

“It’s nice that clubs at this level are thinking [about him]. We are honoured.”
In La Liga, Rakitic has not only been the best central midfielder this season but one of the best players overall.
He is the highest scoring central midfielder with seven, which places him alongside Gareth Bale and Pedro, and also has five assists to his name – only Bale, Neymar, Fabregas, Koke and Cani have more.
As well as that, he has been named man of the match five times this year which is more than any player in La Liga including Lionel Messi (4) and has an average pass success rate of 80%.
WhoScored even have him down as the third best performer in La Liga this year behind Messi and Ronaldo.

From 40 yard thunderbolts to free-kicks, penalties and deft chips, the variety of goals he has scored has been fantastic and adding goals from midfield is a prerogative for David Moyes as is simply bringing in a central midfielder.
At 25, he is a great age because United need to bring in some experience and rated around £15 million, he would certainly be affordable if Moyes were to follow up. This admission from his agent that he is honoured by the interest would also put United in a strong position to negotiate for any deal.
Do you think Ivan Rakitic should be a midfielder David Moyes is looking at?
