Chelsea could sign £40m Arsenal target for just £10m cash - report
Chelsea could pay a remarkably low amount in cash for Arsenal target Julian Draxler according to a report.
Arsenal were claimed to be the team in the lead in the race to sign the playmaker last month by former footballer Jan-Aage Fjortoft who stated Arsenal were the clear favourites to sign Draxler, revealing the player speaks regularly with Arsene Wenger.
Chelsea are however in the past week said to have accelerated their own interest, sparked by Schalke's own keenness to sign Kevin de Bruyne.
The Mail claim that a deal could be struck, which would involve Chelsea paying just £10 million in cash for Draxler, with De Bruyne also going the other way.
Rob Shepherd writes: "Chelsea appear to be favourites because Jose Mourinho is ready to offer Kevin de Bruyne as a makeweight in a transfer for Draxler. The value of the whole deal would be in the region of £10million."
Draxler has a release clause of around £40 million, but Schalke can deal for lower if they want to. If they are getting De Bruyne into the deal they would be forced to start off from a more realistic valuation of the 20-year-old.
De Bruyne is valued highly in Germany after his impressive displays for Werder Bremen last season, and Borussia Dortmund even made a big money offer to try and sign him.
The Belgian has found himself out of favour in recent months and is hoping to force a move in January to save his World Cup dream.
That could in turn push Schalke into a decision on Draxler, but the young German who recently expressed concern about being played out wide rather than in the centre at his current club, would do well to consider just why De Bruyne is leaving, and whether Chelsea are the right side for him, considering even Juan Mata's struggle to hold down a place this season.
Would Chelsea be a good or bad move for Draxler?
