Chelsea's Jose Mourinho 'incredulous' at Man Utd choosing Moyes: 'But he's won nothing!'
CHELSEA'S Jose Mourinho was 'incredulous' at being overlooked for the Manchester United job and could not believe it when the Red Devils instead chose to appoint trophyless David Moyes.
Serialised in El Pais, Torres says Mourinho felt betrayed by Sir Alex Ferguson over Moyes' appointment and believed his track record made him the obvious choice for the Old Trafford job.
When he learnt he had chosen Moyes, Mou was incredulous.
"He was convinced that they enjoyed a friendship of genuine trust. He thought that his fabulous collection of titles, two European Cups, seven League Cups and four in four different countries, constituted an endorsement no other candidate had.
"When he learnt he had chosen Moyes, Mou was incredulous. He screamed: ‘But he’s won nothing!’”
Mourinho eventually came out and said Ferguson had rung him personally to announce his intention to resign well before the decision was made public, but Torres claims this was merely an attempt to hide his embarrassment.
He writes “What most spooked Mourinho was the conclusion that in public he would look a fool. He felt cheated by Ferguson and feared someone might stop taking him seriously.
"Mourinho’s advisers told him to say that he already knew everything because Ferguson had called to inform him.”
It is worth noting that Torres is a known adversary of Mourinho and some will see this as the latest evidence of the journalist's vendetta against the Portugese boss.
