Chelsea transfers: PSG winning Mata race

Paris Saint-Germain are now believed to be winning the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata on transfer deadline day.

The 25-year-old joined the Stamford Bridge two years ago and was in fantastic form for the Blues last term scoring 11 league goals from midfield.

New Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, however, is not thought to be the Spaniard’s biggest admirer and has brought in fellow attacking midfielders Willian and Andre Schurrle so far this summer.

The Spain international is considering handing in a transfer request at Chelsea in order to force a move with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested Mata but a SportsDirect News source has told us PSG are the current frontrunners for his signature and have opened talks with the midfielder.

Mata is concerned about his place in the national side ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next summer and is looking for regular first-team football after not being called up for Vicente del Bosque’s latest squad.
