Chelsea’s Wallace linked with the move he should have made last summer
The Brazilian right-back has again been linked with Benfica, after his loan move to Inter Milan proved anything but successful.
Back in July, Benfica were linked with a loan move for Chelsea right-back Wallace.

It was a rumour that made sense, with the Brazilian teenager
unlikely to get game-time ahead of the likes of Branislav Ivanovic and
Cesar Azpilicueta. And that was something Jose Mourinho emphasised when he spoke after the Blues’ pre-season match against Singha All-Stars.
“We’ll get the best option for him, in Europe,” Mourinho said. “We want him to adapt. We’ll see the best of him.”
In the end Wallace did not head to Portugal, but to Italy, where his time at Inter Milan has been something of a disaster.
Having played just 39 minutes for the Serie A club so far, it is fair to say Mourinho – or anyone for that matter – has certainly not seen the best of Wallace. He has rarely been seen at all.
With reports in Italy claiming Wallace could return to Stamford Bridge in January, Portuguese newspaper A Bola has decided the time is right to throw Benfica’s name back into the mix.
After all, they were interested back in the summer and they are likely to offer him more opportunities than he has been afforded in Milan.
If Benfica move for the teenager again, it will surely be with the intention of playing him; just as Chelsea are likely to make that a proviso in any deal.
So perhaps, better late than never, Wallace will end up at Benfica for at least the second half of this campaign. If A Bola’s suggestion is true and the club still want him that is.
Where do you think Wallace should play from January?
