No Fifa decision on Qatar World Cup date

Fifa has confirmed it is yet to make a decision as to whether the 2022 World Cup will be staged in winter.

It had been suggested the governing body could move the Qatar showpiece away from its scheduled date due to the soaring summer temperatures in the country.

The Fifa Executive Committee convened in Switzerland to discuss the matter on Thursday and, while it is unsure exactly when it will be held, it expects the competition to be staged in Qatar as planned.

When asked if the World Cup would be held in the Gulf nation, spokesman Walter De Grigorio told reporters: “No doubt.
"What is open to question is if we play in winter, and if so is it November, December, January? I don't know.
"But there is no doubt we will play in Qatar."
