Monaco rubbishes reports of an early exit for Falcao

Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev has dismissed claims that Falcao could leave the club - barely months after joining.
Monaco sporting director Vadim Vasilyev has dismissed claims that Falcao could leave the club - barely months after joining.

Chelsea were keen on Falcao and tried to sign him this summer but he snubbed them to move to Monaco, back in Ligue 1 this season.

He has begun the season well, with four goals in five league matches, but his early days at the club have been blighted by speculation.

First, there was talk that he was older than he was - allegations that have been proven as unfounded - and then there were suggestions that his spell at Monaco would be brief.

Atletico Madrid did not want to sell direct to bitter rivals Real Madrid but a switch to Ligue 1 - and then a move to Real - would avoid angering the supporters as much as it would if Falcao joined the La Liga giants directly.

Chelsea remain interested as their striker situation continues to be a problem but Monaco are adamant there is no clause that would allow the Colombian to leave prematurely.
Vasilyev told L'Equipe: "There is no clause in Falcao's contract that might allow him to leave after a year."
