In-form Ricky Lambert retains his place in the England squad and is one of five strikers named along with Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert.
Hodgson expressed his delight with the squad and 'insisted' there were no surprises.
He said: "There's no real surprises, it doesn't vary too much from the last squad although the last time we didn't manage to have all of the players for when we went to Ukraine.
"We don't have to debate how important these games are and I am very confident these players will be the ones that take us there, as long as they come through this weekend's games."
He also defended his decision to keep Hart as his No.1, adding: "As far as I'm concerned Joe Hart is my number one, he has never let me down."
