Lucescu: Draw suits United & Shakhtar
The 68-year-old trainer believes a draw against
the Premier League giants represents a good point, but hinted that his
opposing coach may be happier with the result
The Ukrainian giants looked to be heading for defeat at the Donbass Arena after going behind to Danny Welbeck goal, only for Taison to draw level with a 78th-minute strike.
The veteran Romanian coach believes the draw will prove good enough for both teams but rued his troops' defending in the build-up to the England international's opener.
"The result satisfies both sides," the 68-year-old coach told reporters. "United capitalised on our mistake and scored a fortunate goal.
"I wouldn't say they were in control of the game, because I can hardly remember more than one effort on our goal.
"The draw is not the worst outcome for either team. I am happy we rose to their level and even got the better of them in certain aspects."
Lucescu's men sit second-placed in Group A behind David Moyes' men and travel to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen on October 23.
