Everton: Martinez monitors Clasie
Exclusive
Everton are monitoring Feyenoord playmaker Jordy Clasie.
The 22-year-old, who has made provided three assists in seven Eredivisie appearances this season, has been labelled ‘the Dutch Xavi’ because of his metronomic passing range.
The star, also hailed for his tenacity, has previously been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
However, both north London clubs splashed the cash on playmakers in the summer – with Spurs acquiring Christian Eriksen for £11 million and Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil for £42.5m – leaving the door open for Everton to swoop for Clasie.
SportsDirect News understands Roberto Martinez is keen to bolster his attacking midfield options, with 32-year-old Leon Osman approaching the twilight of his career.
Clasie is valued at around £7m by the Dutch club – a figure well within the Toffees’ budget.
However, Feyenoord may yet resist any sale, with the player under contract until 2016 and the club under no financial obligation to let him go.
