The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds skipper could miss up to six weeks, meaning that he will not play until mid-January.
That means the 33 year-old will not be able to take part in Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur, Cardiff City, Manchester City, Chelsea or Hull City, as well as the Anfield outfit’s FA Cup match against either Oldham Athletic or Mansfield Town.
The loss of Gerrard will be a big blow for Liverpool.
The England captain has provided six assists already this season, which is far more than anyone else in the Reds side.
Jose Enrique, Luis Suarez and the also injured Daniel Sturridge have set up the joint second most goals for Liverpool with two each, and Gerrard is the only person in the squad other than Suarez and Sturridge who has scored more than a single Premier League goal.
The next six weeks could therefore be crucial in deciding Liverpool’s season.
