Adebayor in from the cold as Sherwood looks to give striker new lease of life

Tim Sherwood will give striker Emmanuel Adebayor another chance at Tottenham after he was frozen out by sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas.

It is understood the striker is in the squad for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final against West Ham.

It is a significant call from Sherwood given Villas-Boas’s fractious relationship with Adebayor, who has made just one substitute appearance all season in the 6-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Villas-Boas refused to play  Adebayor, despite calls to do so from the White Hart Lane hierarchy.

Jermain Defoe, also marginalised by Villas-Boas this season, is in line for greater first-team involvement under interim boss Sherwood.
Defoe is set to complete a £90,000-per-week move to MLS side Toronto, who are managed by former Spurs defender Ryan Nelsen, next month.

But it is understood Spurs are exploring the prospect of bringing the striker straight back on loan to ensure that they are not short of attacking options for the final months of the season.
A loan return to Tottenham would satisfy Defoe’s desire to stay in contention for Roy Hodgson’s World Cup plans.

An instant move to the MLS would all but end the striker’s hopes of going to Brazil next summer, but regular Barclays Premier League football would give him a chance of a squad place.
Question marks: If Jermain Defoe does move to Toronto he may be loaned back to Spurs
