David Moyes proves a point to Wilfried Zaha
The 20-year-old showed such incredible potential in pre-season but David Moyes chose not to play him hardly at all, instead choosing to let him continue to work hard on training to improve himself
Silly rumours started to surface about why Zaha wasn’t playing but Moyes reiterated on more than one occasion that his absence from the first team had nothing to do with the lad himself and more to do with the competition for spaces in the squad.
He also repeated that he would use Zaha when he felt he was ready, and Moyes has now come through on that promise.
Two consecutive substitute appearances have given Zaha his Premier League debut where he was understandably nervous but that hurdle has now been passed. He has now completed the jump to top flight football.
Against Stoke City today, Zaha is expected to get his second consecutive start in the Capital One Cup after he featured against Norwich earlier this season and he should be on a high after his Premier League cameos, so we could see the real Zaha let loose against Stoke. When he is in full flow, Zaha really is a brilliant spectacle to watch.
There had been fleeting suggestions of a loan deal for Zaha this season but you felt that if Moyes started to give him game time ahead of the winter transfer window, then he should stay at the club and so it has proved.
Moyes made it very clear he wasn’t going to use Zaha until he felt he was ready for it and it is a testament to how much he must have put in on the training ground to have worked himself into this position.
From now, Zaha can kick on. Now the debut is out of his way and it looks like he is going to be involved a little more than he has been in first couple of months, United fans are crossing their fingers that the Zaha from the pre-season tour can apply himself like in the top flight sooner rather than later.
